Statue of Liberty

On August 14th Emily and Megan rolled out of bed early, to start a 3 ½ hour journey from Dover DE to New York Harbor in hopes to meet Lady Liberty. Upon arrival, at Liberty State Park, New Jersey we had a short hike to the ferry station where our second voyage would begin. A few pigeons provided entertainment on this hot sunny day while we patiently waited for the ferry to dock. Following a brief intermission at Ellis Island we were soon underway to Liberty Island home to Lady Liberty.

WOW what sight!
Lady Liberty stands as tall as a 22-story building (151 feet) her pedestal was designed by Richard Morris Hunt, this 89 foot-high pedestal sits upon a concrete foundation that appears to grow up from within the 11-pointed, star-shaped walls of the existing Fort Wood.
